W SYDNEY HOTEL
LED NEON ART INSTALLATION

The long-awaited W Hotel finally opened on Sydney's famous Darling Harbour in late 2023. With a sleek, modern exterior and interiors designed by London-based Bowler James Brindley, the 500+ room 5 star hotel also features the largest suspended LED neon signage installation in the Southern Hemisphere - large neon pink emus made by Custom Neon.

Led by our Global Operations Manager, Kit Henseleit, we worked on this incredible project for over four years, consulting with various designers, architects, and builders. The double-sided LED neon emu signs were fabricated at our Australian facility using more than 200m of LED neon.

What We Made for W Hotel in Sydney:

W Sydney is one of five W hotels at the forefront of the brand's transformation, driven by local culture, flavour, history, and vibe. The emu artworks we created help differentiate the luxury Sydney hotel and represent its connection to place.

Created in close consultation with engineers, each emu artwork was made in three pieces connected by acrylic plates. The larger emu signs measure approximately 5.2 metres tall and 3 metres wide. Suspended from the atrium ceiling, this installation can be viewed from any one of six different storeys, bathing the lounge area and guest room corridors in a bright pink glow.

Kit combined her extensive experience and design expertise with dedication and enthusiasm to go above and beyond for this customer, considering every little detail.
