Custom Neon® FAQs

We have a total of 18 colours (click the colour tab) to choose from. 8 of these are white when the sign is turned off and coloured when the sign is switched on. The remaining ten colours come with a coloured tube, so the sign shows its colour even when it's turned off.

We also offer RGB colour changing signs.

We have developed our own range of 36 fonts, including cursive, block and double-lined fonts. In addition to being unique to Custom Neon, ours is the most extensive selection offered by any LED neon sign maker. What's even better is that we can work with almost any font, character set, or writing style. If the Custom Neon fonts on our neon sign maker (click the font tab) aren't quite what you're after let us know what you need and we'll make it happen!

Once you hit the Add to Cart button, our custom sign maker will generate a design proof of your sign, with all the details of your custom order, the price and what you'll receive in the box.
Select YES if you're happy to proceed, and go straight to checkout. After payment, you will receive an order confirmation email, and we will begin manufacturing your sign(s).
Select NO if you still have questions or need help. Please proceed to checkout and go through the payment process. We will then provide further assistance by emailing you a design proof to confirm details and answer any queries.
Please note, if you select NO, your order turnaround time begins from your approval of the design. This may add additional time to processing. Please check your junk/spam folders. If we do not hear back from you within 7 days of our email, we will start production.

Our custom sign maker is perfect for creating neon word signs, personalised name signs and neon light quotes. If you are looking for something different, such as a business logo sign, customised open sign, or unique neon artwork, we would love to work with you on a design. We can do almost any font, shape, style and design - turning your vision into a neon masterpiece! Contact us with your ideas now.

We are happy to offer a free design service to our customers, providing one or more designs for your approval at no extra charge. If you have a change of mind and wish to amend or cancel your order before the sign goes into production, we will happily offer a partial or full refund. Once a custom sign order is approved and has gone into production, we are no longer able to offer a refund. Please note that a custom sign is automatically approved if "YES" is selected when ordering.

Most of Custom Neon's range of signs, lights, lamps, and wall art plug into a power socket. We do offer battery pack options for small signs, lights and lamps. Please contact us to find out if your custom design is suitable for a battery pack.

Most Custom Neon products come with a 4.9ft transparent cord which plugs into an AC adaptor. The adaptor has an additional 3-6ft of black cable that plugs into the socket. A free remote & dimmer will automatically be added to your order at checkout.

Hanging your new neon light sign is surprisingly easy.  Custom Neon signs weigh 6-11lb on average and include pre-drilled holes on the acrylic backboard.  Custom Neon signs are safe to transport and easy to install.

For wall mounting your new neon light you’ll need one of our Wall Mounting kits which must be purchased at the time of ordering your sign as they require a specific hole size. To hang the sign you'll need one of our Sign Hanging kits, or you can also do it yourself with hardware store items:

• Fishing wire (we recommend using heavy duty wire and using a fisherman knot/s)
• Rope (we recommend securely knotting)
• Heavy duty removable hooks (We recommend using several removable hooks to hold up to 6-11lb)

Our LED flex is available in 8/9/10mm thickness. The minimum letter height is approximately 7-10cm for simple/non-cursive fonts and 10-13cm for cursive or script fonts.

If your custom order is for a sign larger than 240cm by 120cm it will be made on two or more backboards that can be easily arranged together. Doing this keeps the signs safer during shipping and allows us to deliver the best possible price for you.

Absolutely, we have several options available:

1. LED neon lights, lamps and sculptures in a clear acrylic open box;
2. LED neon lights, lamps and sculptures with an acrylic base to allow for stand-up signs.

By default, Custom Neon signs are mounted on a clear, acrylic backboard. We offer two standard backing options at no extra cost.

• For script/cursive fonts - we recommend the cut around / contoured acrylic backing.
  
• For simple/block fonts - we recommend the rectangle acrylic backing
  

We also offer a cut-to-letter acrylic backboard option, as well as acrylic stands and open boxes. The cost for these options is shown on the tool.

Backboard options include clear, glossy black, white, gold, silver mirrored, a custom colour, or UV printed with an image. If you would like a backboard that is not listed here, please contact us for a quote.

Our remote & dimmer offers a range of brightness settings, ON & OFF option, and Party Modes which makes the light sign flash, flicker and pulse. They also allow you to dim the brightness of your sign, which can help with exposure when taking photos in front of your LED neon sign or when using it as a feature for a photo shoot. A free remote & dimmer will automatically be added to your order at checkout. You can also purchase a remote & dimmer separately.

Because Custom Neon light signs are handmade, there are sometimes small marks on the acrylic or glue marks where the PVC tube holding flexible LED has been attached to the acrylic. In the rare instance that the marks are evident, they are always minor and not visible when the sign is turned on.

If you intend to use your new Custom Neon sign outside or anywhere where it might get wet, please order a Custom Neon® Outdoor Sign. Our outdoor signage range comes with an IP67 waterproof rating. An IP rating is a certification proving a product meets a certain standard of water and dust proofing/resistance. IP67 products are protected from contact with harmful dust and protected from immersion in water with a depth of up to 1 metre (3.3 feet) for up to 30 mins. They are not for underwater use.

Our standard LED neon signs are indoor signs that can be used at outdoor events, parties, etc... provided it is for short periods in fair weather and they do not get wet. Please note that our standard signs are not watertight and should not be exposed to wet weather, extreme heat or cold or be placed in locations such where they might get wet.

Outdoor Sign Specs and Indoor Sign Specs

You’ve come to the right place, Custom Neon also offers UV printing, so we can help you with a combination of UV printing and lightweight LED neon!

UV printing is an effective way to add a sharp, vibrant coloured image or text on the backboard of a Custom Neon sign. UV printing is available on any acrylic and can be printed in any colour. If you use a specific colour, just provide us with your Pantone code or CMYK breakdown, and we can match it! It’s excellent for capturing finer details like gradients or elements of your design that may be too small for LED Neon.

Naked Neon™ is a new product from Custom Neon that combines high-quality LED neon flex with our next-generation acrylic backboard material to allow an ultra-close-cut backboard.

The Naked Neon™ backboards are created from Polycarbonate rather than the acrylic used for our standard backboards. Polycarbonates are carbon polymers with organic groups attached in a long, continuous chain, creating a strong yet flexible material that can withstand impact forces and generally does not shatter.

What makes the material remarkable is the combination of flexibility and strength. Polycarbonate is pliable and has an impact resistance 250 higher than glass while still being flexible at room temperature.

This allows us to create signs with a barely visible, transparent backboard that extends for a minimal distance around the outline of the LED flex but still provides a resilient way to mount the sign. As with all LED Neon signs, it will provide years of use if handled with care.

What You Need to Know about Naked Neon™

• Indoor/Outdoor - Naked Neon™ is currently only for indoor signs.
• Backboards - Naked Neon™ is available on clear backboards.
• Wall Mounting - Naked Neon™ can be wall-mounted using our wall mounting kit or suitable DIY hardware from your local shop. Depending on the size of your sign, you can also mount it using adhesive strips. Hanging wires are not ideal for Naked Neon™.
• Product Handling - Due to its flexible nature, additional care should be taken when unboxing and installing Naked Neon™.

The main differences between glass neon signs and LED neon signs are:

• Affordability: LED neon signs are cheaper than glass neon signs and easier to replace light tubes. Glass neon signs are pricier to purchase and costly to repair.
• Durability: LED neon flex is made of high quality, flame retardant PVCs and is flexible. Traditional neon signs are made of fragile, breakable glass that shatters easily.
• Energy Efficiency: LED neon signs have a low power usage with an input voltage of 24V/120V, whereas the traditional glass version uses an input voltage of 3KV-18KV.
• Safety / Suitability for Home Decor: The lower voltage means LED flex signs remain cool to the touch, and there's no glass to break. Glass neon signs are not usually considered suitable for homes with children due to the safety risks from breakages, mercury and neon gas.
• Ease of Installation: LED neon signs generally do not require a specialist installation team. Unless they're very large or you need them to be installed in a specific manner, our signs can be hung or wall mounted as you would any other piece of wall art. The weight, fragility and power requirements of traditional glass tube neon signs usually require specialist installation.
• Easy to Maintain: Neon look LED signs are practically maintenance free. Depending on the placement and climate, traditional glass neon light signs will require maintenance which must be carried out by a trained professional.
• Lightweight & Portable: LED flex is considerably lighter than glass neon tubes making LED signs lightweight enough to use just about anywhere, including bedroom décor, portable party lights, for events, and much more.
• Noise: LED neon signs are very quiet and produce virtually no buzzing sound. Glass neon signs, on the other hand, are famous for "the buzz".
• Interference: LED flex signs will not cause interference with your TV, Wifi, etc... Glass neon signs can cause interference with infrared remote controls.
• Brightness: 210 Lm/m makes LED flex neon brighter than traditional glass neon, which produces a warmer light at 197 Lm/m.
• Lifespan: LED neon flex signs will keep shining for approximately 100,000 hours of use. Glass neon signs offer approximately 10,000 hours of use.
• Nostalgic Appeal: The vintage neon look can be recreated using LED flex, but it won’t be exactly the same.

LED neon flex signs can be up to 10x more energy efficient than the same sign made from glass neon tubes. LED neon flex has a low power usage with an input voltage of 24V/120V. Compared to a typical glass neon sign's input voltage of 3KV-18KV, LED neon signs have lower electricity costs and greater safety. When used correctly, LED neon flex signs have a lifespan that can be up to 5x longer than glass neon signs which means less wastage. Finally, LED neon signs do not contain neon gas, mercury or any other harmful chemicals that can make recycling difficult. As an added bonus, we can now offer wooden backboards.

Custom Neon indoor signs are handmade to your approved design using LED flex on an acrylic backing. The materials used are PVC and acrylic. Our outdoor signage range is made using high quality LED lights in fully enclosed acrylic, and they have an IP67 Waterproof rating. With both our indoor and outdoor signs, there is no fragile glass that can break, no neon gas, and no mercury.

Custom Neon signs are designed in the UK, Australia and the USA, and manufactured in China, Los Angeles and Australia. Where your sign will be made depends on your location and the specifications and requirements of your sign.

Our signs come with an acrylic backboard. You can choose from a variety of options when it comes to this backboard (sometimes the design will determine what backboard is required). The backboard can be cut around the shape so it is contoured and nearly invisible or it can be cut in a desired shape. The backboard colour can be clear, metallic, solid colour or UV printed with an image.

Shop Signs and Products - Payment for all signs and products ordered through the Custom Neon online shop is taken at the point of sale. You can choose to pay by PayPal or by using a major credit card. In the UK, you can also choose to pay in instalments using ClearPay.

Create Your Own Neon Signs - Payment for all custom made signs that you design online using our Create Your Own Neon tool is taken at the point of sale. You can choose to pay by PayPal or by using a major credit card. In the UK you can also choose to pay in installments using ClearPay.

Bespoke Signs Designed by Us - Payment is required in full before production can begin. Once you have approved a design, you will receive an invoice via email, which can be paid via Paypal or by using a major credit card. When payment has been made, your sign will go into production.

Custom Neon offers a free Standard Shipping option on all orders regardless of the value. When available, we also offer a Fast Track option. Fast Track costs are based on the delivery address and will be calculated at checkout. If you are working with a Custom Neon designer, please let them know you would like Fast Track, and they will add the cost to your invoice.

In the unlikely event that your sign has been damaged in transit Custom Neon will ensure that a resolution is provided.

We recommend opening your Custom Neon parcel upon delivery. Damage must be reported within 7 days of delivery of your Custom Neon sign to be eligible for a replacement. Damage or faults reported after this time period will follow our general returns and refunds policy and will not be covered under warranty. Note: the delivery date is the courier delivery date, which can be found by following the prompts in your tracking email.

If you believe your item has been damaged in transit and you are within the 7 day claim period, please send an email to your LED Neon Designer or info@customneon.com with all of the following:

• a clear photo of the damage to the sign,
• a clear photo of the box & any damage to the outer box,
• and a clear photo of the shipping label on the box.

Custom Neon takes all necessary care to ensure our signs are delivered safely to our customers. We use a premium express shipping service that requires a signature on delivery. The customer may request to opt out of the signature on delivery directly through the shipping service once the shipment process has begun. Please be aware that if you choose to opt out of the signature on delivery requirement, Custom Neon will take no responsibility for lost, missing or stolen parcels that have been marked as ‘delivered’ by the shipping service.

Custom Neon UK abides by the Consumer Contracts Regulations which allows UK purchasers a cooling off period from the moment you purchase the product until 14 days after the item is received. Please note that this cooling off period only applies to Made to Order Signs that you have bought online from the Custom Neon® UK Shop. It does not apply to any personalised signs. Nor does it apply to any fully customised signs that were designed and purchased using our Create Your Own Sign online tool or that were designed by our team to your specifications.

Made-to-Order Signs from the Shop - entitled to refund (see refund procedures below)
These are signs that have a pre-determined shape/font/size and price. The only thing the customer can choose is the colour(s). Example Neon Peace Emoji

To organise a return and refund on any Made-to-Order products purchased from our Shop, please follow these steps:

• The return period begins the moment you place the order and ends 14 days after you receive the product(s).
• Please ensure that the product(s) you wish to return are in their original condition with all packaging, adaptors, etc...
• Please contact us using this form to let us know what products you wish to return and why. We will then send you full return instructions.
• Please note that in order to be eligible for a refund, all products must be returned within 14 calendar days of the confirmed cancellation.

Return shipping costs:

• If your sign is faulty, Custom Neon will cover the cost of return shipping.
• If you have changed your mind, you will cover the cost of return shipping.

Personalised Signs from the Shop - not entitled to a refund unless faulty
These are signs that have a pre-determined shape and size, but the customer is able to choose certain elements such as the name or initials as well as the colour. This may or may not change the price. Example Unicorn Name Sign

Custom Neon Signs from the Create Your Own Sign online tool or designed by our artists - not entitled to a refund unless faulty
These are signs that are made to the customer's exact specifications, such as the style/font/size/wording/colour/backing/extras/etc...

To organise a return and refund on any Personalised Signs or Custom Neon Signs, please contact us at info@customneon.co.uk to let us know which products you wish to return and why, attaching a short video of your sign as well as photos. Please note that we require both a video and photo(s) for diagnostic and quality purposes. If you are not able to provide both a video and photo(s) of the problem, then our ability to rectify your issue will be limited. Once we have received all of the required information, we will be in touch to try to resolve the issue.

Custom Neon products include a two year warranty which covers electrical components when used appropriately. Please be aware that Indoor Signs are not suitable for use outdoors or anywhere they might get wet. Inappropriate use will void the warranty. Resolution for faulty signs will be dependent on the source of the fault and will be determined between Custom Neon and the purchaser.

Warranty Coverage for Hard Wired & Installed Signs - Custom Neon bears no responsibility for any costs incurred when installing and/or uninstalling your sign. If, in the unlikely event that your sign is experiencing a presumed fault, we will request photos and videos for diagnostic purposes and may require the sign to be sent back to us for replacement or repair. If you have chosen to have your sign installed and/or hardwired, Custom Neon takes no responsibility for any costs incurred due to uninstalling and/or re-installing your sign. If your sign has been hardwired in by an electrician, it is at our sole discretion to decide if the occurring fault is covered under our two year warranty.
